Ayurvedic lifestyle – practiced for more than 5000 years, highly recommends nature-based simplified lifestyle. To attain mental and physical peace, one must clean their mind, body, and soul to enrich it with positivity. This is explained in Vedas in three simple terms, ‘Satyam, Shivam, Sunadaram’ – Wherever the pure knowledge and happiness is, there lies the beauty.

Detoxification offers excellent benefits like Boosts energy, Eliminates toxins, Maintains healthy weight, Soothes the nervous system and mind functions, Promotes mental well-being and gut health.

Detoxification also boosts immunity. The human body is naturally capable of cleansing and healing, but this process is compromised due to uneven lifestyle, routine, and diet. The immunity of an individual varies based upon Kalaja – Seasonal and age variations. It is crucial to perform detoxification, especially with changing weather, i.e., Spring or Fall. During this seasonal change, an individual is vulnerable to season flu, allergies, fatigue, and laziness.

Detoxification consists of Diet, Exercise, Herbs and supplements, Body care, and a Disciplined lifestyle.

How to perform detoxification?

Detoxification must be performed for two weeks; if it is too long, try at least seven days. Prepare your mind for this and eliminate caffeine, sweets, refined sugar, alcohol, tobacco, processed food, and meat. This should slowly be replaced with whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains.

  • Rise early and begin your day with a glass full of lukewarm water
  • Perform Abhyanga with Dosha specified oil (Sesame – Vata, Sunflower – Pitta, Sesame or Neem – Kapha). Let your body relax for few minutes, and take a hot water shower to scrub off the excessive oil gently.
  • Perform Dosha balancing yoga
  • Eat dosha specified oatmeal
  • Avoid fried and fatty snacks, and eat fresh fruits and nuts
  • Take Brahmi with milk after lunch
  • For Lunch and Dinner, eat Khichadi (Kitchari)
  • Drink at least 70 ounces of water a day and include detox tea
  • Try to eat dinner by 7 P.M.
  • Take Triphala with a glass of lukewarm water
  • Enjoy your night with soothing music and relaxed sleep

Detoxification varies based upon individual body type or dosha (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). It is recommended to use oils, perform yoga and consume oatmeal or khichadi (Kitchari) as specified for the individual dosha for the best results.

Detoxification and cleansing should be performed every three-four months or during the seasonal change. This pandemic highlights the need for strong immunity and a healthy mind and body. Ayurvedic detoxification is a great way to start your health journey with a ray of hope and happiness in your lives.
